Almost done with my Firebrand shell build. I'm hung up on what to use for a dinette table. Needs to be 40x48 to fill the space between the seats to make up the bed. Was thinking 1/2" oak plywood top and 1/2" particle board underneath to help keep it rigid. Then trim around it. What has everyone else done?

Just wanted to throw this out there but how about doing away with a dinnet all together and adding a couch? I had a dinnet in a house I built and after a few years replace it with fold out couch. Bought a Ice Castle 2 years ago and used it twice and pulled out the dinnet and put a jacknife sofa in its place. So much more comfortable and easier to fish out of. Also makes the house seem much bigger.

Had I not already bought all of the cushions, I might go that route. I also have a bay window and I think the couch would take away from that. Would probably go the route you are describing should I ever build another house.

Looks like you are just right up the road in lake George?

Yes and no. I lived in Lake George most my life and went to school in PR until my junior year (class of 95). I have a lake lot on the north end of Lake George and spend a lot of time there, actually have my Ice Castle parked down there for the summer to camp out of. I live just 9 miles north of there now but I'm closer to Lake George than Bemidji.

Bought it from a guy that burnt a hole in his from his ice auger exhaust. 125.00 for a new bottom cover and a patch job on the foam and it was back to new.
And it was the same color as my jacknife in the front of the house.

i have been wanting to do this for a couple years. Do you have any photos of the process? How is the depth on the sofa vs the dinette? Where did you relocate the fuse panel/CO detector/battery box?

I do. Do you have an Ice Castle?

The fuse panel luckily had long enough wires to it to be able to just move it from the side to the front. I ran new wires for the Co detector to the other side along with adding a volt meter and 110v outlet. The hole placement in a IC with a dinnet is already in the perfect location for a couch. Bought a pack of cedar from menards. Moved the battery box a few inches to the very corner of the house to make more room under the couch. Used the dinnet seat lids for the new armrest with tons of storage underneath.

I have just enough room to fit a 30qt Engel cooler between the couch and the wheel well just to give an idea on how much room you gain.

That looks great, I have an 8x16 LOTW, and have been thinking of doing this for a while. I have 2 holes in the back that would be unusable, but I've never used them anyways. Looks like you did a great job.
