Does anyone use a helix 7 for ice fishing? I was looking at the marcum lx7 but would also like to have GPS on the unit.

I heard they are coming out with a new one on Dec. 2nd, might be able to save some bucks by waiting. I'm looking also, was going to buy on cyber Monday, in the past i've bought things and shortly after, they improve it, like the aqua view, bought that big screen heavy unit then the next year the small ones come out, i'm looking at the helix 5 but this new one could change my mind.

I have the Helix 5 for ice fishing and really like it. Helix 7 would also make a nice unit, easier to see I'm sure.

I have the helix 5--use it for both ice and open water fishing. BUT,if I would buy a newer unit I would go with the 7 inch screen. The larger screen is a must for me. The 5 inch screen is just too small

Can't you zoom in on the screen, to make it easier to see. do you have to buy a chip for these units? if so which one is the best?

just got this in my email yesterday http://www.humminbird.com/Products/ICE-HELIX-7-SONAR-GPS/

I currently use my 7 for the atv, its pretty slick with the lakemaster card. if you only fish one or 2 lakes, you could go to the chartselect site and buy them individually there https://chartselect.humminbird.com/

I've been trying to get the gps going on my helix 5 and all I get is the simulator. Do I have to have a transducer hooked up to run the GPS only. I have the lakemaster chip installed. Thanks

when you turn it on and its booting up, it might be defaulting to simulator mode. if that is the case, when the unit is starting up, you will see a screen to allow you to hit the menu button, after that there will be 3 choices, normal, simulator, and system status, select normal mode. to use the gps functions on your 5, after you have the unit on, hit the power button once, a menu screen will pop up, navigate to the sonar part and select OFF.

I have a helix 7 as well and was thinking about using it on the ice, where is the best place to get the "kit" for ice, the soft pack, transducer and such?
