Well, it was a long wait for fishable ice this year. I made it out to a small area lake yesterday afternoon and found about 4 inches of ice all the way out towards the middle of the lake. The fish did not start biting until dark, and it was not fast and furious action by any stretch of the imagination. Fish would hit euros and minnow heads on a deadstick, and also very small minnows under a float. They would not respond to any amount of jigging. My buddy and I ended up with 10 crappies between 9-11 inches. I would be curious to hear if anyone else got out in the area, and if so, how was the ice where you were at?

Nice batch of fish. It's great to see the hardwater reports starting to roll in. I couldn't find anyone to tag along on Saturday so I decided not to head out. I'll be giving it a go this weekend. By then there will be enough ice that I won't have to worry.

Thanks! The ice wasn't exactly ideal yet, but it sure is nice to have the whole lake to yourself. That will change throughout the week as more and more people feel safe walking out...

Fished all day Sunday on a small lake near Richmond. Right around 4 inches everywhere we checked. No problem locating panfish, but not a lot to show for it. Kept around a dozen plus 1 surprise walleye on a waxy. Small plastics caught about the same number as any live bait. Tipup produced one small northern.
