Just got back from a 3-day trip to Lake Winnipeg. We experienced everything that Big Windy has to throw at you - ridges, rain, wind, and snow. On Saturday (3/18) the lake was like glass with no snow. I would recommend wheelers with chains for travel. We fished the west side where access with trucks is also good, but you are limited in the depth you can fish due to a large pressure ridge running from north of the mouth up to the NW toward Winnipeg Beach. We were able to make it though in almost all spots with no extension on the auger. The fishing wasn't great for us with all the weather changes. We managed to catch a fair number of smaller fish (12"-17") but only one fish over 20" for 8 guys over three full days. We had our best luck north of the pressure ridge in slightly deeper water.

Best of luck to all those heading up in March! As always use caution and common sense - we saw conditions change drastically over the few days that we were there with the high winds and changing temperatures.
