Our crew made our March trek to Lake Winnipeg last Thursday. Over four days we got to fish in a downpour of rain, high winds, and a blizzard. We worked the gimli area and a bunch of the southwest corner, with a few fish in some spots and bigger numbers in others. Our bigger fish ranged from 28.25 to 24 inches on a mix of rattle baits and rattle spoons. As always the guys had a couple fish that were camera shy and didn't quite make it top side. All in all a good trip with the exception of one wheeler that locked up a transmission.

It was a mess. We dumped 4-5 inches of water out of the house multiple times, but you gotta go!

Nice fish...I was up the same time. How about that wind the day after it rained all night Friday I believe.....Almost blew me over a couple times. Only one seized up four wheeler that is not to bad that lake seems like the Bermuda triangle on equipment...Everything works perfect before you head up and all of a sudden it goes to hell.

That wind on Friday was bad, but the squall on Monday had even stronger winds which also switched from the southwest to the northwest. We did have some flasher carnage and I almost had a four legged hood ornament in Sandy Hook on the way home Tuesday.

Ret-ro you don't happen to know how many fish over 20" your group had do you? We had a trip planned for right now (22-26th) but we changed plans due to all the poor reports of the missing big girls. It was just hard to make the long drive and spend the money if the reason for going (pigs) isn't there. Thanks for all the information and reports you post on this site. It really helped us last year when we made our first trip up to Winnipeg.

I know we had a dozen fish over 20" between seven guys over four days. A buddy's group of five fishing the east side had about double the fish over 20" on same days. The fishing is definitely not as good for 20-26" fish as it was in the past, but there are still big girls to be caught at a rate better than anywhere else thru the ice.

Thanks! I try to share as much as I can because I was fortunate to have a fair amount shared with me as well as learning even more the hard way.
