Last night was top 3 best catfishing days i have experienced. The weather was absolutely gorgeous! The cats were biting! There was a beautiful sunset and a bright nearly full moon. We said it many times last night that it really doesn't get any better than this!

A buddy from GF and i got down to the cat cove around 5:30 and started fishing the current seam with fresh cut sucker minnows and it was ON right away! We both caught 3 cats before we could even finish the first beer! Nothing huge right away but some decent cats. We pounded away at them for about an hour and i realized that we certainly didn't have enough sucker minnows for a bite like that....

Luckily there were some younger fellows just upriver fishing for walleyes so i went over to talk to them hoping that they would catch a goldeye for me and they had three on a stringer already and let me take one.

The suckers ended up lasting us until close to dark, we did something last night that i never use to do and that was using the sucker minnow heads, it actually worked pretty well and i caught my 2 biggest with a sucker head. Right around sunset we had to cut the goldeye up and it slowed down considerably. We didn't catch any for a good half hour and thought that maybe they weren't in the mood for goldeye...

Boy were we wrong! Once the sun was good and down and it was pretty dark they started hammering again on the goldeye. We ended up fishing until midnight and caught fish right up until then. I had to call it quits when i pulled my last cat in just before midnight as i had an hour drive to get home and had to be to work this morning.

We ended up catching cats in all different sizes from probably a pound to over 20 pounds. Our best guess is we caught somewhere between 30 and 40 cats last night. The biggest being 34, 34.5 and 36 inches. My scale wasn't working so i couldn't get a weight on them but in my experience those three were all in the 20 pound ballpark. We also managed to get a carp that was about 15 pounds up on the bank and a sheephead that was about 8 pounds. I also had another cat that was right in that 34-36" range up on shore but he slipped back in the water when trying to get a grip and got away.

That was definitely a night I will never forget! I don't have the capability of getting the pictures up right now but will try later today.
