Does anyone know a honest reasonable person or place that works on outboard motors in the Andover/Anoka area? Thanks. good luck.

I don't know about Andover/Anoka, but if youre willing to go to Albertville, Protech Marine has done good work for me at a fair price.

2 different parts that do different things? Instead of throwing money towards parts an guessing a mechanic that can test for the problem is best.

RH what makes you believe its 1 or both of those 2 parts?? Their both easy to replace BUT if that aint the problem you will spend $$ for non-needed parts
Whats the problem you notice?

The part is called Rectifier/Regulator assembly. Just under $200. It's in the front bottom of the motor. I see where it is but there is stuff in front of it and I'm not that mechanical and am afraid of screwing something up. The motor doesn't charge the battery. Had the battery checked and it was good. When the engine is running the voltage reads 11.5. It's a 2002 motor and I have never had a problem with it. good luck.

Thats where a mechanic comes in,I'm not a merc guy but under the flywheel is a charge coil that only sends charges to the batt, the other coil under the flywheel is a charge coil for sending a high charge to the CDI and coils.
Your right that it maybe a Rectifier/Regulator, only testing will tell,But if the motor is running it may be the charge coil or the stator, a good mechanic can OHM test and find the problem of 1 of the 4 possible causes.good luck.I have found so many repair shops dont electronically test parts! Bring the motor in explain the problem, get it back after paying and the problem is yet there.Thats guessing an lots a shops do that!! Then charge to bring it back for more replacement parts till someone spent 600 bucks for a 200 buck problem. Its disgusting watching and reading of repairs like that!!
