Planning a surprise trip for fiancé. He was fishing with his buddies the week after opener this year and they caught Walleye and Pike one after another.

I would like to take him back in the end of August, can anyone tell me how the fishing will be at that time?

Thanks

tough time for replies this time of year. not sure how the fishing will be in the dog days of august but the later you go in the fall the bigger and more aggressive the fish get on any lake. take him either now or later in the fall if possible.

leech is tough that time of year for the average fisherman. the last few falls for our group have also been tough fishing. Its nothing like opener fishing in august. with that being said, I wish my wife would plan something like this for me!

Thanks, I think I'm leaning more towards the end of September now.

Truth of it is I like to fish as much as he does so it's a win win trip.

End of September tthe weather will obviously be more hit-or-miss, but your chances of good fishing will be much better. August on Leech is tough. Best bet that time of year is to pay attention to the weather, hope that the wind is blowing favorably, and fish wind-driven points, or maybe the deep humps in Walker Bay. Fish-here/fish-there in August, as the fish will be scattered. Late September, fish will be schooling up, and your odds of a good day will increase.
