My wife, kids, and I had reservations at Westwind Resort. We packed up the 5th wheel camper and hooked up the boat and headed up after work Friday night. We got up each day at 445am and packed the boat and were ready to head to our spot by 515am. The first 2.5 days were very windy, probably 2 to 2.5 ft rollers at times to it made fishing uncomfortable at times, but I'm glad we still went out. Seems like if you were willing to ignore the windy conditions, you were able to get on fish consistently. We consistently caught 1 to 3 fish each pass. Each morning we went out, we came back with a 3 or 4 man fish limit. It was great to basically have a fish fry each night. Each morning we were out, we were able to catch 30-40 fish before getting back to the dock by 9am sometimes 830am every morning. Whole family had an unbelievable time. We keep 1 fish for each person over 17", then the rest ranged in size from 15"-16.75" each day. There were to days that the lake was like glass, but the others were very windy. Last day we had 3 to 3.5 ft rollers, and still couldn't believe we did as good as we did. Seemed like a few fisherman were struggling to catch fish consistently, but we didn't have any problems getting on the fish. I did however notice that we were using a different technique from other fisherman. And passed my knowledge over to other fisherman as i was passing them at the boat dock or at the fish cleaning station. Very nice that a few of those fellow fisherman came and thanked me for advice, cause they ended up doing well. One thing I did notice is that we didn't start to see other fisherman or boats cruising around till after 730 or 8am. Was real nice to have our spot or the lake in general to ourselves. What a great time! Thanks to my wife and kids! Luv you to the ends of the earth!

Thanks for the report. I am heading up this weekend with my 3 boys and hope for a bit calmer water!

I do have a couple of questions if you care to answer:

1. What was the fishing technique you shared with the others?

2. What area of the lake did you fish?

3. Any tips on bait, lures, etc?

Anything I can do to make the family fishing great is my goal as a dad!

Thank you kindly,
Craig from Plymouth.

there is no secret on that lake. In may everyone sets up on the first break and as the dog days of summer approach, you go deeper. If you find the gravel, you will find the fish. You will know if you are on it when you drag your jig across it. It is a big bowl and the fish cruise all over it. I never fish it this far into summer but if I did, I would troll around with spinners. Im sure the folks at west wind will tell you what works.

"Don't just give me a good, detailed fishing report. That's not enough. Tell me where you were on the lake, what baits and colors you were using, what time of day, what color underwear you were wearing, tell me how to fish, how to tie a knot... PLEASE HOLD MY HAND"
