pickled salmon

Has anyone ever tried pickling salmon before?? I am trying to use up some of he many pounds we have frozen and was told it works good.
I have never heard of it before.

Loopy they do it all the time in Alaska. Just google pickled salmon recipe's and they have the recipe's there. Let us know how it turns out. Try a small batch first to see how you like it. good luck

I wonder how it would taste if a person cold smoked them for about 4 hours before doing the pickling, I think I need to give that a try.

Loopy I would follow the recipes that are shown on google. None of them that I have seen have had anyone smoke them first. I would not do that and then pickle them myself. good luck.

Smoke them and then can them. It's very good. When canning them just add 1 tbs of canola oil and 1 tbs spoon of a good home made maple syrup. All the bones dissolve and still has the smoked flavor. That's per pint.

Great idea Floodeyes, I was going to mention that as well. My brother does this all the time. Great way to enjoy salmon and use up that salmon Loopy. good luck.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you cold smoked the salmon or it is not fully cooked you need to pressure can it. Water bath canning will not get hot enough to kill the bacteria.
