My wife and I have been doing well all summer long pulling cranks in 5-10 feet of water. The water temp last Sunday was 80ish and we were catching pan fish and Walleyes in the middle of the day. Ultra light cranks ULC-3s work about the best and number 4 shads a close second.

Those are great times on the water. I am a sucker for fishing cranks on the weed edges and as you said, on the right bodies of water it can be dynamite in the middle of the afternoon when their is minimal competition from other anglers to compete with.
