I was thinking of venturing out to one of these lakes this weekend to look for walleyes. Looking at the dnr report for Amelia showed incredible #'s from a 2013 survey.

Anyone on the forum fish these lakes and care to give some advice? I'd appreciate anything you can offer.

Walleye Guy,

My wife and kids and I were thinking of going to one of those two lakes also this weekend, more than likely on Sunday. I have fished Minnewaska, but have heard good things of Amelia. This is our first year with a boat, so I'm not as familiar with the open water fishing as ice fishing. If you happen to have any info to share it would be much appreciated. I hate asking, but with the kids with they don't always have as much patience as I do to look for fish, and I'm far from a good fisherman. Not looking for secret spots, just general depths, lures etc to start looking. If you happen to be out Sunday maybe we could run into each other. Thanks.

I'm no help at all Cooper. I've never been on either lake. I know both are deep and clear based on the DNR lake finder web page. I also saw both have a ton of walleyes according to the surveys. I was going to look at the Friday fishing report on outdoor news also. :Reeling:

Walleye Guy,

My mistake, I thought you were more familiar with the lake. Thanks for the reply. If anyone else has any advice it would be much appreciated.

Cooper

Here's the outdoor news report for the lakes we are looking at...

Walleyes are being caught by shore fishermen after dark with slip bobbers and minnows on the west side of Lake Emily. On Lake Minnewaska, crawlers continue to produce walleyes during the day in 22 to 24 feet of water or troll crankbaits after dark in 8 to 10 feet of water. Sunfish are being caught throughout Minnewaska in 8 to 12 feet, while bass and pike remain active here as well

Hope this helps.

I went out to Emily last night. Never been there before. The north west side had weeds out about 150 yardrs or more.

I tried minnows, raps, slip bonnets in the weeds... Nothing but for me... I'd try shad raps in the middle of the lake next.
