Hey guys, I was at an auction last weekend and ended up coming home with a boat lol. It's a RichLine Challenger 14 on a trailer with an 18 horse Johnson on it. Not what I went to the auction for but I got the works for $100 so I figured why not! I'm in the process of seeing if the motor runs, where would I usually find the serial number? I'm just looking for some basic info like plug gap, fuel mix ratio, etc. I'm guessing the motor is from the 60's but I can't seem to find a serial # anywhere! Thanks

May not have one. I have a Scott Attwater. No s/n but was able to age it to early 60's or late 50's. You may not have a s/n.

This will get you a model #

Then once you have year, hp, and model you can get a manual.

What color is it? How many pins on the fuel connector? I have a '59 Johnson 18hp that I did the conversion to run a new style fuel tank. Easy process and have a bunch of pics if you have the old pressure tank run engine. Most 18hp were 25:1 oil mix.

It's white with Johnson written in orange. Two pin fuel connection, one for fuel and one locking pin. I'll run out and take a pic of the motor and post it

Serial # will be on the left side of the transom mount,Or if it nissing look on the alumin freeze plugs on the engine itself.Should be FD with a number after the Fd Like FD19. plug gap is .30, point gap is stamped on the flywheel or uder it Think its .17? fuel mix was 25 to 1 but with modern oil TC-W3 I have read a 50-1 mix is fine.
That Johnson was made between 1957 till 1966

That freeze plug is I believe the serial number,I have no reference's for serial#s
THERE SHOULD BE A PLUG ON TP OF THE ENGINE ITS HARD TO SEE SOMETIMES.OOPS CAPS LOCK
Just look for any freeze plugs you may get lucky
Just remember FD or FDL followed by a mumber

That is a early to mid 60's model, use a 50:1 mix for the fuel. Pre 60's engines had bronze bushings for the connecting rods which required the higher oil content. Simple engines to work on!
