With the impending closure for walleye on the pond a buddy and I decided to head up on Sunday to give it one last go before hardwater season. We left around 7:30 that morning and stopped at Johnson's Portside to get some bait and boy were those some fine looking bluegill leeches they had available. With the imminent closure it sounded like the trappers have quite harvesting for the season in the area as we called around and nobody had anything bigger. Needless to say we bought 3 dozen and went out to make a day of it.

We fished slip bobbers with leeches in 25 FOW near 3 mile and had 4 fish in the first 20 minutes with a couple of 17" eyes, a 25" eye and a small bronze back. From there it was a fish an hour as we moved out to 30' and back in to 23' to cover some area. Around sunset we moved up to 18' and tagged 5 last fish with a double, all in the 16"-17" range and a bonus mid size smallie.

It wasn't fast and furious but enough to keep a guy busy and boy were they nice fat healthy fish. It was great to enjoy some time with a good friend on the water. I'm looking forward to sticking a few with the short sticks in 3+ months.
