Yep started doing it this way a couple years ago now. It works great. If you haven't seen the youtube video you should search it, makes cleaning slimers a lot easier!


Been doing it that way ever since I learned how to fillet one. Some good tasting fish right there too. I think its funny when I am with someone and they are shocked I am going to keep a northern.

The DNR should also be putting out videos on how to clean them like this. If people knew, the lakes would not be as overrun with snakes as they are. I will not hesitate to keep a pike. But if I didn't know this method I wouldn't bother. I personally have been keeping 20-22" fish on these lakes and releasing bigger ones. I hope this reg helps.
