Anyone been on Prior in the last few days? I am wondering about ice.

I want to head out Friday night after work. I assume there should be at least 4-5" there but would like know.

Just got home from fishing Prior. There was 4-6 inches of ice where I fished. About 15 or so guys out from the winter access.

I was out on Lower Prior last night. 4pm - 9pm. I found 5" of ice. Another guy said he was on 6".

Went out from the Sandy Beach access.

The lake is glare ice. Good clear ice. But you have to have cleats, or skates. There were several people ice skating. It makes for effortless pulling.

We found Sunnies and crappies. 9" sunny was the biggest. 10" crappie was the biggest. No little dinks.

It was my first outing of the year.

Was out yesterday for a few hours after sunrise (got out a lot later than I wanted.)

Couple a couple sunnies and a smaller largemouth. Hoping to get out again on Friday before the sun comes up. All caught on the size 3 rippin raps. No action on anything else.

I'm excited to try out Prior - I have never fished it before but the Panfish League I'm a part of is heading down there for an event on Lower Prior on February 11th.

MN bass fisher: A panfish league sounds really fun. Can you tell me about it and how to join? thank you.

From my experience I can tell you that it has been a ton of fun! This is our 4th season in the Ultimate Panfish League. The league and events are usually set in July and then the dates are solidified. The UPL has 30 2-man teams, 4 Events over the season on lakes about 100 miles from the Metro. The goal is to weigh in your heaviest 7 Crappies and 7 Sunfish, if we get 7 of each species you can then weigh a 15th Bonus Fish (either a Crappie or Sunfish of your choice). Our first event was on Sunday and me and my partner finally took down our first 1st Place Win! You learn a ton at each event that you can take with you on future trips. I will post a link to their website, if you live near any of the remaining lakes (North Arm of Minnetonka, Lower Prior or East Rush) come on our to a weigh-in and see what it's all about!

MN Made is another Panfish tournament series that start in the last year or two that is supposed to be a good time and filled with a bunch of friendly/knowledgeable anglers.

I made it out on Sunday. My main goal was to test the atv. I did a bunch of work on it and needed to make sure it was all good to go.

I was on lower Prior out of the Sandy point access. Still lots of ice. The access is getting beat up. Some slushy spots. Lots of trucks out on the ice. I almost ran out of auger.

At first I was just hitting open holes. I figured that was I would be driving more than fishing. The Sunny bite was good. They needed the small tungsten jig to bite. I had about the same catch rate with plastic vs wax worm. Lots of 8" sunnies.

Here are a couple of pics. I have to ad that most people can catch average sized fish but you gotta have some skill to get some of these guys.

I was out Sunday as well. Did pretty good in 10-19 FOW. I used plastics all day, it helped keep tiny fish away. I kept 13 from 8" - 8 3/4".
