No, the breakaway doesn't have its own typical little battery mounted on the tongue, it uses the "House" battery.

I had a similar problem this fall while hunting. But I didnt realize the breakaway cable was pulled. After blowing that fuse the breaks released.

To the original poster, a lot of trucks and SUV's these days have break controllers built into the dash.
