I agree that none of the big resorts are struggling at all to keep roads plowed based on the cost of fuel, maintenance etc. Look at the 2017 new years weekend last ice season and red lake was basically one of the only lakes you could get a truck pulling a wheel house out and rogers alone must have had over 1000 rigs come out that weekend. At $10 an axle that's $30,000 for one weekend.... Not including all the food, drinks and bait they sold.

As far as resorts being disrespectful to customers getting stuck or needing help I agree with that as well in some cases. One example was about 10 years ago I was pulling my skid house out of big point on mille lacs through a private harbor and it got stuck because there wasnt much snow about 6 inches and my tires spun right down to the ice every time id try to pull. Talked to one of the resort owners about giving me a hand and plow the snow out of the way so I could get to there road (maybe 150 yards) and told him I'd be willing to pay some cash. He laughed at me like I'm some cidiot and told me it would be about 24 hours and at least $100!! Did I mention I had my own brand new plow truck with! So I walked out drove to fleet farm bought tire chains for my truck and plowed my own road about 150 yards out and connected it to his road and used that road all year as well as everyone else that had access to the private harbor all because one resort owner wanted to be a d**k and act like I have no idea what I'm doing. Because of this he lost my money and a bunch of others on big point.

We had a battery die on lake of the woods over new years! My buddies truck 2 years old -27 below.. we called up adrians n they sent a guy over to jump us! We tried offering him a 50 for his efforts ! He wouldn't take it! Point being, Adrians gets my vote for being the most helpful and friendly resort on low andI try to use them as much as possible! !

$50 for a pass is highway robbery unless they are doing more than just giving you access to the lake, i.e. plowing you a spot to pull your house into. Thinking that people who buy a $40k house and drive a $60k truck are going to pay it because they have a lot of money is why resorts go out of business. Greed gets people in trouble.

I agree...I'll happily pay $10-20 for access for the weekend, but $40-50 is getting a bit ridiculous (assuming they don't do any extra plowing for you)...For example, my wife and I were going to set-up on Friday morning about 10 a.m and fish through Saturday about noon...basically one full day of fishing and the resort wanted $40 for access...like I said, $10-20, no problem at all...$40...that's getting a bit steep for basically one day of fishing...

Every year this subject pops up with all the usual pros/cons. It's usually the guys driving through the public access & getting on resort roads that complain. Just pay the people that are maintaining the roads & quit complaining.

Can't limit anyone to any area. The lake itself isn't owned by anyone. If they wanted to ...perfectly legal for them to set up 10.01 feet from your house.

I have a story from today.
My complaint comes from the resorts that charge "per day" to use public waters. That is a brewing lawsuit and will be discussed another day.
Some resorts charge to simply drive across their chunk of land and I happily pay what they ask as that is private property.
What do the "per day" resorts offer?
I drove 200+ miles round trip today to rescue a family stranded on one of those roads. Their generator quit and their vehicle wouldn't start. They were toast and the resort that charges per day wouldn't lift a finger to help.
When I got there I went to the office to see how much they were going to charge me to rescue one of their repeat customers and I was informed that the road was closed and the plow operators were off for the day. I told them either they were going out there, I was going out there, or I'll get an escort out there to rescue one of the people they charge to use public waters.
I got to their house and fixed their vehicle, loaded up their generator to repair at my shop and plowed the house out.

Please think before you pay a resort to use YOUR lake. Use their access, yes but the rest is pure greed.

Twisted I agree on the charge per day issue. I am happy to pay a fee each day I use the private access and/or plowed ice road. This is the first year a resort told me I had to pay each day I was on the ice, regardless if I stayed in my house all day and did not use the plowed road. I had to pay $30 which was the charge for 3 days even though I drove out once and back in at the end of the weekend. Makes no sense to me.

The guy was pretty rude when I challenged him on it. He told me if a client is in need of help and doesn't have a road pass for the day you are on your own even if you offer to pay them for assistance. I won't be going back to that resort.
