A little Mille Lacs update for you guys.

Went out of Barnacles Friday morning and set the house up on the south side of Schultz flat in 30-32ft of water. Put a few tip ups on the top of the flat. Fished all day/night and punched probably close to 30 holes looking for fish. Not a single fish, bite, or nibble. Did see a few on the camera. Also had a lot of Tulibee swimming through all day.

Fast forward to Saturday morning, we moved to East Flat and ended up catching 3 fish over 25" in about a 4 hour span. Another 18" came later in the day.

Sunday, we pulled off the lake around 10 o'clock. As we were picking up we did have one break a line on the rattle reel.

Also, a product I'm very impressed with after the weekend is the Finicky Fooler tip up system that incorporates a rod (think a simpler iFish Pro).

Tutts said big suckers had been the ticket, but we had most of our bites on medium to big shiners. Not a single fish was caught jigging.

Good fishing. Not great. A typical Mille Lacs trip IMO. Not many fish caught but the fish that we did catch were very very nice fish and made it worth while!

Oh and another thing I wanted to mention. PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOURSELVES.

I'm sure I'm preaching to the wrong crowd here, but feel it needs to be said. Our 2nd spot (East Flat) was littered with garbage. Soda cans, beer cans, chew tins, bags of human waste, wrappers, red solo cups, etc.

I picked up almost a 5 gallon minnow bucket worth of other peoples trash. Frustrating.

We made a quick run up there on Saturday. First stop was the far east end of Curly Flat. Setup on the break and tried it from the top edge to bottom. Marked fish towards the bottom of the break but could not get them to bite. Talked to a guy that was setup a couple hundred yards away and he said saw the same thing over the last 24 hours.

After about 30 minutes picked up and headed south to Busters Flat. Again marked fish towards the deep edge so we setup the portable for the evening bite. Marked fish pretty consistently from 4pm to 6:30pm. Manged to get a couple to bite but struggled with hook set. Missed several and lost 3 half way up. Talked to some guys that were setup with tip-ups they said said the same.

It was nice to get out again. With that wind it felt a lot colder than 25 degrees.

I usually end up with 3 or 4 LARGE garbage bags of peoples @#&^#&$!&@&$^^.There is always a few that will leave their crap(literally)behind.Fishing was slower this weekend....2 jumbos 5 tullibee 4 eyes. Good luck to all be careful on the north shore as it seems to be a bad year again for the first 1/2 mile from dry land.c63

A couple of guys and i got out onto Boot Flat Sunday morning from 8am - noon. Boot had a bout 5-6 ice castles. One guy came out to talk to us and mentioned that out of the 5 ice castles, only one managed one walleye (25"). He didn't get a single fish. He saw my group and I drilling 30-40 holes, hole hopping, so he came out to see how we were doing.

We managed 10 tullibees, and one jumbo. We noticed the same thing as everyone else. Marked a ton tullibees, but they were finicky. Marked a ton of fish on the bottom but the ones coming from the bottom wouldn't bite.

Bowhuntermitch.......Have you used the Finicky Fooler hole cover/Ring system when it was cold out? I know you mentioned you were impressed with over the weekend but it was seasonally warm this past weekend. At least it was in St. Cloud area.

I have been looking for something like this as I use a bait feeder real attached to a light tipped rod as my "tip Up"....I keep struggling with my line freezing in the hole when it is 20 degrees or colder. The wind also kills me when there is no snow cover.

I am ready to press Send on the Fincky Fooler website and purchase a couple of these, I am just looking for the last clarification before I do so.

Thanks for sharing BTW if this works I'm going to be stoked!!
