Just heard an update from Mark Rosen that Cousins deal with MN is likely to be 3yrs/$28million per. He's visiting Vikes first and probably last with none in the middle.

To the people who have taken the stance that "Washington doesn't want him, so there must be something wrong" you obviously have not paid attention to the previous two + years of Cousins career. Dan Snyder is not a good owner, and they have treated Cousins like crap. Over the past two years with Cousins playing with a franchise tag they only offered him team friendly deals instead of investing in him as the long term option. They kept him on the tag to try and work it out. If they kept him for a third year on the tag it would have cost them over like $34million for one year and Cousins told them he didn't want to sign with them. They aren't letting him go, he wants to go and they don't want to tag him for a third time when a deal won't get done with him.

areneb04, you hit it on the head with that post. I read a stats post on Cousins last night that said if the Redskins defense would have been middle road the last 3 years he would of averaged 13-3 records. Lets see what he can do with the Vikes.

Such an odd deal. The Vikings could not talk to, or plan a trip, for Cousins to Minnesota. If they did, it is tampering. KC got hit up for that with Maclin a few years ago and lost a 3rd and 6th round picks. The Vikes can only talk to the agent. So the deal must be verbal to his agent, and his agent has verbally agreed with Cousins, but Cousins want to meet in person to finalize, which he has to schedule on his own without talking to the Vikes.

Sounds like the NFL - a complete mess!!!

The NFL has some weird rules around signing free agents. It really makes no sense since there are so many back door channels to get things 99% worked out before free agency even begins. I understand not talking to a player on another team during the season. However, any player on the last year of his deal should be free and clear to talk to other teams the day after the super bowl which effectively marks the end of the previous season and the end of their contract. Maybe they can't sign until a certain date but communication shouldn't be forbidden.

Nofish, I absolutely agree with you there!!! Sounds like Keenum's deal is 2 year 36 million. Good luck to him.

No, full 3 years, fully guaranteed!!

Per multiple reports, quarterback Kirk Cousins will sign a three-year, $84 million deal with the Vikings.

So looks like an average of $28 million a year for Cousins. One tidbit I heard recently when thinking about spending $30 million/year for a QB is that when we first signed Bradford between his contract and our starting RB's contract (AP) we were spending $30 million per year. This season with Cousins $28 million and Cooks rookie deal we'll only be spending about $29 million per year for the 2 contracts.

I think that helps put it into perspective a little bit.

Yes I heard that also driving around awhile ago. Finally all the rumors are over. Sports folks have been saying this for over a week now. Hope Keenum does well in Denver. The guy is a class act which we need more of in pro sports. Now to see who else they can pick up. good luck.
