Quick hunt today, had bird down at 6:15AM. Had a ton of gobbling and even more hens clucking away all morning long. Most vocal hens I've ever heard, it almost sounded like I was hunting around 6 other hunters, ha. Well the previous two tries here I tried to call and cutoff the hens etc but they kept going around me. So I got some advice to just not call at all since hens might see it as competition so I put up a Strutter and a single hen and zipped it. Sure enough big boy came walking right up to my decoy with 2 hens in tow. Big bird, 25lbs, 1.5in spurs, only 10in beard though. For sure a 3 year old.

#2 down, my son got his first Tom Sunday morning. What a fun morning, had 7 jakes jumping on my Axian X hen for 30 minutes. Then they left, came back again, jumped on her again. Then they left and 2 Toms came in and attacked my strutter at 9am. He missed first shot but I was able to cluck him to stop again and he got him on the 2nd. Hopefully he's hooked now!

My 8 year oldgot it done with a crossbow tonight, it was quit the night. First he shot one at 30 yards, it flips about 4 feet in the air then starts doing the flop on the ground. After a minute or two of hugs and high fives I go to get it, about 20 feet away it wakes up jumps up and runs off. I go back get him and x bow, we follow a few blood drops, never do find it. Hour later another comes in at 20 yards, he shoots, the top just jumps a bit and keeps walking around decoys I scramble get a new bolt in, but by then he's at 50 yards folliwing a hen, pretty sure he missed. They walk, off in sane direction other one ran off. We pack up 30 minutes later, we find 2 tail feathers where he short at the 2nd one. So before we leave I go,look one more time for the 1st one and we hear flipping in the woods. I'm,like we found it. Turns out it was the 2nd one, he didn't miss, blew right thru the armpit, but bird walked around for 10 minutes like nothing happened. Anyway never did find bird #1, buy looking for him we found bird #2 we thought we missed.
