The extended forecast FINALLY looks good for some serious ice melting. Any predictions on an ice out date? 23 days until opener I think it will be close...my guess is Monday the 14th. I sure hope I am wrong! I have a week off of work starting opening day...hope I am not wasting PTO!

Sure hope we can get a boat in the water on opener - not sure the lake will be ice free but i can deal with some chunks or a small ice pack - the weather forecast is looking promising. Should be about snow free by Sunday with High winds coming Monday & Rain on Tuesday.. At this point i don't think the rain will help much. With Sun and wind we can blow a few inches of Ice off the top a day while also melting below - once that snow gets off the top the water will start to warm up - Anyone know a recent ice thickness amount? Im gonna pray and pick May 7th for an ice out date!

I'm on the other side of the coin. Mille Lacs is my home lake. My bread and butter. BUT... As long as there's ice on the lake "other" activities can't take place. The last time ML had a late ice out, that year class turned out SUPER strong. Love the lake! However, I have other lakes I can hit on opener. Just my...

When I left my cabin today it looked like there were big pools of water in a few spots on top of the ice. My truck said the temp was 63. If the forecast holds we might have a shot at some night fishing in the boat opening weekend!

Moose Hunter You hit the nail on the head, Here's hoping those "other Activities" do not happen again this year! That way we can get another good class of fish coming up hopefully.

As of April 25th, there is 32 inches of ice on the lake. The snow on top has turned to slush and travel in ANYTHING is difficult at best. There is large pools of water under the remaining slush. The ice hasn't honeycombed, so the water has no way to get through the ice. At the current highs and lows, this honeycombing is about a week and a half or so out.
Once this is done, it'll be about two weeks before the 32 inches will be gone.
My prediction from the end of February is May 20th.

The latest ice out ever.

Viva global warming!
