Slim chance for any loopers above the road. They don't have the jumping stamina like steelhead. I have caught steelhead above the road but never a looper and I have fished that river before the loopers were introduced and since they were established in the north shore. Keep in mind that most of the best looper fishing is on the lower north shore and some of the middle. Also in the spring McQuade harbor has loopers as well. You can see them at times rolling in the harbor standing on the docks. I have also caught some lakers there casting into the lake from the breakwall. Here are some old pics of the good old days of steelhead fishing before the loopers were put in and the DNR netting loopers at the mouth of the French River. good luck.

Ya Snow, those were the days for sure. The Lester, Sucker, and Knife were hit the most. Crowded as hell, even on the week days at times. Now we hit the smaller streams a lot as well. Then at the mid to late May we go north of Grand Marias hand hit those streams. Still fun. Got to stay in shape LOL. good luck.

So i got back up over this last weekend. I fished a bunch of spots, did some exploring, found some new spots, and despite starting to fish on the lester, i finished on the devil track. fishing was hard, trying to stay away from the crowds. I caught this beautiful specimen about 3:30pm on friday.

I did try to fish on saturday, despite the snow i had to get heading back south again. I will be back soon. enjoy the pics. and as always i wish everyone the best of luck and tight lines!

Beautiful fish! Nice coloring. Remember below posted boundary brook trout need to be 20" to keep and have a shorter season I believe. You may already know that.

Beautiful spawning colors!!! Man you put in a full day for sure. Glad you did some exploring also and found new spots. The DNR is trying to increase the lake run [coaster] brook trout population and it seems to be working. Over the years we are catching more coasters in the spring and fall. Thanks for the post and pic. good luck.
