Where are the under 20" walleyes

Fished last week on Leech and only caught a couple of fish under 20" and many in the 20-26" range. I am wondering if the lake is missing some year class of fish, or did I just not find the smaller fish?. Are the larger walleyes eating the smaller ones, or has there just been a several years of bad spawning?

it's quite the problem to have isn't it....
I don't think I have ever fished that lake without catching a slot fish that had to go back. I too have never gotten into big numbers of eater fish, however I usually only have 2-3 hour stretches to hit the lake. So a lot of that is my fault.

they are in there, you just have to go looking for them.

Slotfish have been very common for myself for a number of years. Dam the bad luck 😆

I agree slot fish are fun and all but thought I would see some more smaller fish in the mix. Just curious on other peoples thoughts.

I fear Leech may be headed towards the Mille Lacs situation. Next year they may change the slot a bit to allow 1 over 20", fun catching big ones I know, but slots allow for recovery but in the long run? I do not know

Family has been on the lake for 7 years now and it has been that way the entire time. From our experience you will find more fish under the slot on the west side of the lake.

Had a friend up there today and they got their limit in a few hours. Not sure where they were fishing though

Iím not a biologist.....but I play one some days. Common sense tells me if you only allow a certain size range of fish to be kept , there will be less of that size range

I will be up in a couple weeks and will try the west side for eaters. Fun lake either way.
