Got out yesterday morning with the old man for a few hours in the South West metro. First lake we went to we caught crappies like crazy. Everywhere we went on the lake, crappie after crappie after crappie. Only problem was every single one of them was 6". No bigger no smaller. Didn't catch anything besides these small crappies so after 1.5 hours and well over 100 fish (no joke) we loaded up and moved to another lake. Took us a little while to find the fish, they were a little deeper than the first lake. But once we found them we were catching, crappies, sunnies, bass, and perch all in the same area on beetle spins. After 2 hours had livewell full of 8-11" crappies and sunnies. Kept 10 of them for the frying pan (gave them all too my dad). Just as we were thinking about leaving I hooked into a 14" crappie that was just huge! The mouth on that thing looked like a large mouth bass mouth. After a couple pictures we put her back. Hope she makes it through the year and continues to reproduce with that awesome gene pool!
