Hey guys, looking for some minnesota testimonials on crushed asphalt, do you like it? Methods for packinf/readhesion etc. Hows it hold up to winter and plowing? I have a steep driveway, so thinking I need more than gravel, and maybe the black will burn off moisture better? It's expensive as hell, not sure where people source mullings from.for cheap, but the crushed is like $320 per truckload. Any help is appreciated!

i just installed crushed asphalt on my driveway. they rolled it in with a packer and it is hard as can be. my father in law has had his driveway for 6 yrs now and has had no issues at all with plowing or it moving at all. he had crushed conctete prior and always hated how everything was white dusty. thecrushed asphalt is never dusty.

how many yards are in a truckload? I called a local asphalt company and to pave the 5300ish sq ft of driveway I have was going to run about 7k. Definitely looking for a less expensive option.

Driveways made of asphalt millings are great if done right.

Millings are at a premium because asphalt producers can use them in new asphalt to cut down on their costs.

A typical truck is going to haul 12 - 15 yds depending on axels.

i believe the millings i got were whats called double crushed. i paid 380 for a 14 yard truck it took 2 trucks to do my driveway and that is 32 wide by 28 long on 1 side and 44 long on the other. it was more expensive than i hope but i like it so far

At 4" thick you should get 71 sq' per yard.

Bituminous millings are when a milling machine mills or grinds 1" - 12"+ of existing bituminous off of a road. It's ground up bituminous. The newer the bituminous, the better it will work for a driveway as there will be enough oil (asphalt) left in the bituminous to bind the millings together once spread and compacted.

Take how ever many inches your want thick divided by 12. Take that number times your sq ft and divide by 27 will give you total yards needed. So if want 3" thick 3/12 is .25x5300=1325/27 = 49 yards
