Walleye and Smallmouth, inland lakes in Grand Marais area?

Taking my gal up to Grand Marais, middle of October, for some hiking and grouse hunting. I've never tried, but am thinking about bringing my 16ft boat/25HP. To do some fishing on inland lakes, of which there are many.
Can anyone recommend 1 or 2 lakes, that will increase my chances for success?
How about a local bait shop, that will give a current fishing report, or lake recommendation?

There a lot of choices. For both species that you want I would go to Two Island lake there. Numbers and size as far as smallmouth and the same for walleyes. Has a DNR concrete landing also. good luck.

Slight change of plans. Found a place on Poplar Lake, so I will probably stay on that body of water. But if it's not productive, we'll hit 2 Island. Thanks

Ya that's a good lake also. I have fished it. One thing you got going is that you are at about the center of Gunfilint and you can go to many good lakes from that lake. Have a great time. good luck.

I will say though that between the two lakes Two Island has more numbers and size on both walleye's and smallmouths. Check out the two on the DNR lakefinder. Cook county.Check the survey reports. good luck.

Could be really cold in October. For eyes Devils track comes to mind. Most of the lakes up the flint have eyes, smalls and norts.I like Saganaga for eyes but thats a trek(about 60 miles) from Grand marias. As far as bait shops check out Beaver house and or Bucks hardware in Grand marais area.Ugly baby bait and boats is another.Good luck, the Grouse are looking better than they have for a few years up that way.As a side note, have been seeing more Grouse around the Millelacs/Aitkin co areas too!c63

Beaver house and ugly baby will most likely be closed for the season. I gave a bunch of info in my previous post, but it apparently didnít go through.
