Gmeabrake and I took a chance on a Willmar area pothole lake on Saturday afternoon. We got the boat launched and started off trolling the south shore with cranks utilizing the north wind. After covering the shore depths with nothing to show for our efforts we decided to slide in tight and start attacking a rocky point with jigs and plastics. Jim had two strikes right off the bat losing the first boat side and landing a nice eater walleye with the second. I made a color change and connected on my first eye which was a healthy 18". We figured out the fish were generally right up tight to shore on the sharp breaking shorelines, although Jim did get a couple off the back corner of the boat. It was a little chilly on the fingers at times, but it sure was nice to enjoy an aggressive shallow bite on jigs and plastics! These are the days you look forward to in August when it's 90 plus and humid. Dark jigs with oystershell & chartreuse plastics in twister and paddle tail were the ticket for us as we continued working the wind blown shorelines.
