I assume though that ice conditions are okay for walking if you're able to get access to the lake? (obviously Red Door doesn't look accessible right now).

A couple cold nights should shore things up for a Saturday morning walk, right? I have a floating suit just in case...

Sure looks knarlly years back before we had wheelers and sleds we walked out of red door spittin rain which turned to snow late morning big wind opened up the lake we hiked out to some structure about 2 miles out by 10am we had whitecaps between us and shore we were floating by 4pm we hiked off the lake at hunters all the while the lake was busting up massive sheets of ice would shoot straight up and sink under the ice flow scary as hell. early ice on mille lakes is a crap shoot every year as far as getting out and catching a few fish (walleyes )

Steve (or staff at Red door)is going to flood a road starting Wednesday.Barnicles has chopped/flooded a small road for walking/wheelers through the Moon scape.Be careful past the second break as that was last to refreeze.Eyes are biting around 19fow.As always happy fishing, drill your OWN holes to check thickness........ don't fall in!c63

Red Door posted on Facebook tonight that they cleaned up a road through that rough ice and will be allowing ATV and foot traffic this weekend.

I saw on the south end Lyback's and Chapman's are also allowing the same. Garrison Sports on the North End had a report of good ice to the first break.

Doesn't sound like anything further than first break will be advised this weekend from anyone. Areas of open water and thin ice if you get very far out there.

Thinking about making a run on Saturday. This cold weather the next couple days should help things out.

I plan to fish out of Red Door this Sunday. I see they recorded anywhere from 3.5"-20" depending on the spot. That 3.5" makes me a little nervous for a wheeler....

Planning on walking out to the first break to see if I have any luck!

Not sure I trust anybody who says there is 20" on Mille Lacs right now....seems bizarre if there are still pockets of open water.

We'll be walking out from the west side early Saturday morning with a spud bar in hand...

My guess is the 20" areas are those that when the ice piled up it made several layers. Agree that would not use it as a reference of actual thickness.

I am loading the 4 wheeler up and heading somewhere on the lake. Don't know exactly where yet but will also be prepared to just walk out if conditions don't support the ATV.

Not going to venture out too far.

Don't guess about ice thickness. Drill your OWN holes and check as you go.The lake DID have some open water spots this past Monday so be careful!c63
