Hey Guys,

Rented a Portvilla sleeper for a couple of days. Fishing was tough for the 5 of us. Caught 4 keepers for the 5 of us. Two about 19". Worst fishing ever on URL. Dead stick produced the most bites. Caught nothing when jigging.

Checked with other houses around us and more of the same - super slow. Portvilla set us up a portable about 750 feet away and it really helped to get away from the crowd as we got a lot more bites right away.

I assume that getting away from the crowd was the main thing. There was a large group of about 20 people that shoveled the ice and put up a HUGE tent nearby. Not to mention all the associated traffic.

I'm thinking about renting a wheeler next time so I can be more mobile. Live and learn!

Bummer to hear about the slow fishing. Do yourself a favor and book with Bear Paw next time around.

Was slow for us too out of westwind north rd 2. Think we brought 6 fish back, decent amount of marks, just weren't agressive.

If you want to catch lots of fish you went about a month to late. The best fishing is early ice. We went up and had 2 60 plus fish days. All that truck traffic and rental houses pushes the fish over the Res line I think. LOL

I was out there over New years weekend and used JR's access. I should've went to Lake of the Woods. Just another hour to hours and ten thousands times better fishing! Red Lake should be called dead lake. The water clarity is ****ty too or should I say dirty. I won't waste my time for some dinky eyes and inconsiderate resort owner anymore.

Yeah, we found that if you're not there before the ice gets thick enough for the hoards to drive all over the place, you aren't going to catch fish. Even the south end of LOW is getting that way which is why we go up to the Angle now.

Anyway, renting from Bear Paw or having a portable and wheeler/sled would be the way to go next time.
