What is everyone using for their lake maps/gps unit? I have had Navionics on my phone for years but am looking to get a handheld GPS unit for ice fishing. Looking for something where I can put myself onto waypoints using the most accurate lake map. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I use a 10" tablet with Navionics. Keeps the phone safe and is a way bigger screen.

I have my helix 7 with lake master. Have mount on Polaris ranger and sled. Also have mount on Genz box for walking or truck. Can get some smaller screen units for pretty cheap price and I like the lake master over navionics

The hand held market is not being pushed. Our phones are way more powerful, but nobody wants to release a detailed app with the same functionality as a display unit because then they won't sell as many screens I'm guessing. Navionics is ok on some lakes, but for most it is still horribly inaccurate, waypoint management is lacking, no trail recording, poor navigation features etc. Still hard to beat a multi-function display. I have been running my elite 7 with a lowrance promaps chip on a ram mount that will go mount in my truck and on my sled and wheeler.

Navionics Boating App is hands down the best thing for me on the water in the winter. I will not use my expensive HDS Live units. I know where I fish in the winter and in the summer I take time to SonarChart Live the areas I plan to fish. That way when winter rolls around my spots are mapped really good making me more efficient on the water.

How do you gain access to SonarChart Live? Are only certain units capable of doing this?

SonarCharts Live is a function of the Unit and Navionics Chip in conjunction with the Navionics App.

The units with wireless capabilities that your phone can connect to are key. Below is a link to compatibility of units.

Navionics SonarCharts Live Compatibility

When everything is connected and setup and you have a Navionics Card and app with a valid subscription you can map areas till your hearts content. It automatically gets pushed to Navionics and they use that data (Waypoints and Routes DO NOT) to update existing maps. Hence why Navionics provides daily updates. After 3-7 days you could update your card and would see it on your graphs as you normally would.

You would also update your data on your phone app. This is where it shines for me in the winter, but also the summer as well.
