Hey how many of you fish the St. Louis River in the Winter? Where abouts, and how have you done in the past? We have generally had good luck out near Walleye Alley.

Never winter fish the river but alot of people do. There are even some people that will eat what you catch. Imagine That.

Theres no fish in that river Eric. E-mail me some time and we can hook up and try it as soon as there is decent ice.

I fished that area many years ago and never caught any huge walleye. Lots of walleye but nothing bigger than 5lbs. Darn limit of two was imposed later. You must have been on the right spot. I used to go over to the small train bridge over the pond just north of there and caught some nice northern in there. Someday I will revisit that area.

NL sounds like a plan. The two limit has made that river what it is today. Like NL says "theres no fish in that river." Especially none with any size to them...heck they must all be saugers in there they are so small?

I was wondering if you can trout fish in the winter? I live in wisconsin and I know in local waters you cant. I was just wondering because of the whole lake superior thing. Thanks

Chevy, Welcome to LSF first off!

Are you asking if you can trout fish the St Louis river for trout? From what I know of that area I don't think many, if any, trout head into the river. All there food stays out in the main lake. You can fish them on the Big Lake though as long as the season is open.
