here is a report from the recent MN outdoornews:

BEMIDJI AREA

Walleye action has picked up in 14 to 20 feet early and late in the day at Big Wolf Lake, Lake Plantagenet, Lake Irvine, and Lake Bemidji. Crappies are being found suspended over 20 to 30 feet on Midge Lake, Kitchi Lake, and Grace Lake while sunfish and northern pike action is slow.

Ice is looking good. Trucks are traveling pretty much everywhere you look now. We've been getting rentals out and set this week, and even w/ the snow, things are setting up for good travel! The walleyes have been deeper than the report above from what I've been seeing/hearing, 18-26' of water...

I had the same mindset too! i brought my stuff down home but only went out once in awhile with friends that had a place scouted out; but you get spoiled or smart in the northland not having to deal with people
