Heading up there this weekend me and buddy. We are going to try for lake trout and whatever bites, but would really like to catch my first lake trout. Anyone got any suggestions? My grandpa fished the lake years ago and he gave me some hints but 30 years can change where they are lol.

I feel like someone asks this every year and every year people say yes there is some trout out there but there just isnt many to actually target them or you can fish all day and bounce around and hope to catch maybe one 1-2 pounder. But this is just based off what I've read not actual time out there searching for them. I'd love to have a decent laker fishery close to home. I still wish they would stock the crosby mine pits with them though.

I was there in September and the launch inspector showed me pics of some trout a guy had caught the day before. One was over 20 pounds! The other was about 15 pounds! Unfortunately I think quality oxygen levels in he deep water is decreasing in this lake. Same thing happened to Roosevelt lake, which the DNR discontinued stocking several years ago. The last test netting didn't produce any lakers.

With all that being said, the really deep hole out in front of manhattan beach seems to be the spot I hear about most.

Burntside Lake in Ely. Gunflint trail area. There's a few lakes in the Grand Rapids area also.

It's worth the effort to put some time in. Two fish over 10lbs this summer
