Was successful in my first attempt at bear hunting. This one came walking down the trail right towards me about 6:45 this morning. He passed one of my marker sticks which was about 3 feet out of the ground and his back was within 6" of the top so I took the shot. Weighed at the processor gave me a field dressed weight of 178 lbs. Not huge but a trophy to me. I think I'm hooked!

That is truly awesome and glad you had a great time getting that trophy. I am not a hunter but most of my buds are and they love to Bear Hunt. Congrats on a nice Bear.............Kirk

Kudos, that is cooler than anything getting your first, still remember it took me hours to stop shaking.

Way to go on your first bear! I've never hunted bear before, so I'm wondering what do you do with it for cuts of meat ect.?

Being my first one, I had a lot of questions when I got him to the processor. The hide is going for a rug and the meat is being done much like I do my venison (steaks, chops, ground and 2 types of sausage). I am curious how it will be because there was a good amount of corn found during field dressing.

Congrats on the successful hunt! Interested to see a picture of the rug when you get it back and let us know what you think of the meat too!
