I drove around it on Saturday. The east side had areas of ice out for a hundred yards or so. The north had lots of basketball sized chunks floating near shore, but wasn’t close to locking up.

I drove around the east and north sides yesterday and there is a lot of ice out there, but the lake is still open. The ice on the north end was stacking up, if it stays that way it’ll make for some damn rough terrain.
What are the chances that people will be walking out on the main lake this weekend?
The chances of people walking is probably pretty good so that’s a bad question. A better question would be are those people insane or are they going out safely?

If you have Facebook Red Door posted a report/video the other day. In a nutshell they went out like 50 yards on ice that had been there for several weeks. Found 2 inches of ice under 10 inches of snow. They are going no further until we get good cold temps for a while.
Have seen reports that the south end bays have had some people going out. Don’t know if this is through a resort or just guys going out on their own.
Who would you guys recommend for a outfitter on mille lacs? And what time would you say is the best for walleyes? Group of 4 planning a trip there. Wouldnt mind sleepers but are open to whatever. Thanks!

South bays have walkable ice but you will be trekking through deep snow and slush…a few resorts letting walkers out. Drove around west side of lake today saw a couple people fishing in Vineland bay in side the weeds. The rest of the west side I would not even attempt to walk out on. Lots of snow slush and pockets of open water or standing water on the ice. Borden lake which is basically across the street by garrison was more open than iced. Pretty warm up there today. Don’t think any resorts on main lake are letting folks out. Unfortunately I think they will have some tough ice conditions this year, but only time will tell.
Side note I believe it was Gregory’s resort left there long steel dock that was tipped over in the lake. That thing is going to be mangled come spring. Hope nobody hits it on a snowmobile either.

Walked out yesterday for a few hours out of lybacks. After trying a new lake that looked good on paper around walker. 5-8″ I found. The 8″ stuff was part refroze slush. No fish. if we get the minimum snowfall tonight/tomorrow we should be making ice this week.
