There is a lot of ice. 16+ inches. It did soften with the warm front but it has been re hardening. The ice was screaming while expanding on Saturday. And we have some low temps this week. I think you can still drive trucks but personally i would advise ATV or snowmobile.

How is the ice? I’m headed up to the Remer area the weekend of the 25th. Will there be enough ice on a small 200 acre lake to fish? Thanks.

I’m guessing yes, I was out this past weekend on 5 different lakes including one that flows, Sunday there was a foot or better of nice clear ice, with a slight amount of honeycomb in the top inch or so. The ice shavings from Friday and Saturday had not melted so not much loss. The last few days look like a wash between daytime highs and nighttime lows.

It was pretty rough fishing, hard to find fish with electronics, camera in the shallows didn’t help much either. They were not in my favorite last ice spots yet, but they are certainly in transition. Seemed like fish high and low were not cooperative with bites only in the middle range. Fish were on the move, catch one and wait. I think the sun and super clear ice were not helpful.

I was out on a small lake on Sunday afternoon, in a pretty protected spot, and the ice was definitely thinner than it was a couple weeks ago and the top few inches were honeycombed. With some rain forecasted today/tonight, and highs in the mid 40’s for Friday and Saturday, I’d be very cautious about going out this weekend. Maybe give Oars N Mine a phone call, (218) 546-6912, on Friday or Saturday for up to date conditions. Be very careful if you do head out, and good luck.
