I was wondering how one becomes a co-angler? Looking into MTT/Full Throttle tournaments. I have my own boat, but don’t feel comfortable enough in knowing the ins and outs of tournament fishing. I am primarily a walleye guy. Spend the majority of my time fishing Mille Lacs and Pool 4. I figured the best way to get into tournament fishing would be to start out as a co-angler. Just wondering what your advise would be into starting this endeavor? Thanks for any and all tips)

Just contact the tournament organizers. Let them know what you want to do. They will get you paired up with somebody.

Those two circuits are team based, so you are gonna want to find a partner. The entry fees aren’t too bad so if you can find a team mate jump into one. Otherwise look into the Cabela’s National walleye tour. On that circuit the pro’s are randomly paired with co-anglers. The pro’s provide the boat and all the equipment.

            Ret-ro is spot-on.

If your looking into Minnesota Walleye Tournaments the MTT, Full Throttle, or AIM are your best bets. In my opinion, the AIM Series which uses a Catch-Photo-Release format & has a great payout, is hard to beat.

A very FUN and well attended Fall walleye Tournament is Walleye Dan’s Fishing To End Hunger event held the 1st weekend in October. It has a $15,000 top prize ($300 entry 2-person team).

Tournament’s are a great way to test your skill and learn a few things to boot.
