For the first time this year, my girlfriend and I didn’t catch a fish on Mille Lacs. We were on the SW end of the lake. A nice evening, very little wind, water temps 44-45F. We tried trolling every lure in my tackle box from 4:30pm-9pm—not even a strike. We covered a lot of water, not sure where all the fish went—or if they are just re-grouping after this cold blast.
But, the grouse hunting on Saturday in Northern MN was HOT! I’ll post some pics on the small game forum shortly.

I have to think the sudden plunge in water temp and cold front really stuck these fish to the bottom.I didnt get out trolling this weekend but we did go out on a launch in Isle bay for some perch and there wasnt much action on them either. The good news is if they havnt been feeding for a couple days they should be real hungry soon ” title=”” class=”bbcode_smiley” /> I will be headed up tomorrow to find out.

I think let the weather and water stabilize a little and the bite will turn back on. I hope. I would guess those fish just moved out a little bit and weren’t very active with the poor weather – huggin bottom.
However, last year I fished when it was butt cold, windy and rainy and just plain bad weather and the feed bag was on. Course that was the end of October.
