A buddy and myself will be hopping in the canoe next wknd for a memorial day float….both have never done this and will be getting the line wet. I was pushing for the Little Falls to Cloud stretch but we settled on cloud to elk river since we have easier access to launch and get off.

My question is since we are rookies what can we expect for fishing and have best odds at targeting? Not gonna lie about dont want your secret spots blah blah…..if you have any I am all ears through PM if you would be nice enough….all fish will go back and doubt I will be making this float again, at least for a long time

If anyone has any feed back i would appreciate it….for both stretches from little falls to cloud and cloud to elk river…..if we do it again I am sure we’ll start in little falls

It has been years but we used to take my small boat from Clearwater to Monticello. I like dark colored tube jigs brown is a good starting point. You will get a lot of small mouth jigging around the leading edge of deep water. We also did well with shad raps casted in to deep water as well. I cant say that I had a favorite color but got bass and walleyes with them. most of the time we would just float and cast at any thing that looked like it would hold fish. When we would find really shallow water some times got out of the boat and walked around hitting small pools or pockets of slack water. I really don’t have any one hot spot but I can say there were times that we would get a ton of fish. Good luck!!! Cant wait to here how you do.

let em go so they can grow

How many days do you plan on paddling? It is right around 40 miles. If you plan on doing more fishing then paddling I would try to keep it around 10 miles or less a day. Lots of good smallie water all the way down.
