Left home before the crack of dawn to be able to hit the water, on the north end, right around 0600hrs…
5/17: Hit the water and headed to the locations the were golden last year. These did not disappoint. We were into fish in a matter of minutes. Mostly walleyes with a few brown bass thrown into the mix to make it interesting. The eyes ranged from 16″ to a fat and sassy 27″ brought in by my girl friend. the smallies were of the “fun” size. Depth varied greatly. We worked everything from 6 FOW all the way to 22 FOW. Rocks to “whatever” transitions were best. Morning bite beat the evening bite by far. Everything taken on artificial baits.
5/18: My partner in crime took a pass today so I hit he water solo. Tried for the repeat of the day before following the same basic path. Weather had changed a bit with clear sky and a mirror smooth lake. Hit a few eyes, then they shut down completely and with everything thrown at them, I couldn’t buy a fish. However… In search for that swimming gold, I had the pleasure of tangling with two bass that can only be described as footballs!
This lil’ piggy went about 19.5″. And fat doesn’t come close to describe her girth.
After changing depth a bit to get away from “The Bass Zone”… Here come football #2… Close to 20” and much fatter the the first.
I’m not a bass guy by any definition, but these two may have changed my thinking. More revelations of my findings will come shortly…
