      Hi Fellas,
I was planning to head up to the lake this weekend, and was hoping someone could point me to a good resort to use to get out to the deep mud off the west or north sides?

I am also curious what travel is like off the roads? I am bringing a big sleeper house, how much trouble will it be to move that around?

      Also any hot tips are always appreciated!! <img decoding=” title=”” class=”bbcode_smiley” />

Randy’s Rentals is going out on the SW side to the mud. looks like he’s on a pretty good bite. Bite has slowed a bit but still pretty good. Try everything and see what works last weekend jigging was king for me, week before was fatheads on jigs, many are saying suckers. I can tell you shiners have been slow for me, which makes no sense, but that’s Mille Lacs.

Depends on which flat you want to fish. All the resorts on the west and north side will get you to the mud. Red Door, Barnackles, Randy’s, etc. Even some on the east side will go all the way out to the mud.

I was up there last weekend and there were some areas where travel off the roads was possible, and there were areas that you’d spend more time digging yourself out vs. fishing. Had a friend go out of Randy’s last Friday and they buried their Jeep. Also watched a truck and castle take two hours to get out of the snow. Sled will be the best option if you have one. Key right now is to stay mobile. You can pick up a couple roamers anywhere you set your house, but it won’t be steady. If you can keep on the move, it can be really good.

Last weekend we got nothing on set lines. We also got nothing on top of the flats. Everything that we put on the ice came from off the edges of the flats with spoons or with Acme Rattle Masters.

            Good luck.

If you have chains you should have no problem getting around if you avoid the large drifts. I was able to pull my house with chains on

To clarify a little, I will have my wheel house with me as well as my 4yr old. So portable, not really and option.

Thanks for the replies, I will giver a go.

Does anyone know how far or to what flats red door goes to?

Is it slushy under the snow?

Mostly no. But I did hit some bad pockets last weekend. Travel conditions are not ideal but they are possible.

Hey guys thought i’d give my report.

Friday night was pretty good, although nothing in the keeper range. After that it got really slow for me. Not sure what changed, but after 8 am Saturday didn’t catch another walleye. All that I caught were on set lines, couldn’t get a walleye to bite on a jig, and tried a few different styles and colors. Did get a couple tulibee’s on jigs.

Planning to head back up the next couple weekends, thanks again for the tips/advice.

Sounds like you were on them for a while at least!

What were you using on your set lines? I’m heading up for the first time this season later this week for a quick 2 day trip.

We were out there Friday night to Sunday morning. We caught about 15 but fished hard and worked for them. Only fished in the big house after dark and was out and about on the snowmobile all day. Probably tried in total 10 different spots just picking up one here and a couple there. No slot fish and pulled in a couple 25s. Seems like even the the smallest pieces of structure had 10 houses on it making it difficult to find spots that weren’t heavily pressured.

I caught them on shiners only. Didn’t even get a bite on a fathead.

Was up there thursday. We found plenty of fish, getting them to bite was a problem.

Only walleyes came on set lines with either a 4″ sucker or 4-5″ shiner. They liked the big baits. Nothing special, biggest was 20″.

We had sleds but seemed like the snow had compacted to the point where a guy could drive just about anywhere they wanted if they watched out for drifts.
