No Ice yet. There was a skim covering most of the south end last Friday but the winds on Sunday wiped that out.

Thanks for the report!!!!Ya it doesn’t surprise me at all. This is why I caution anyone who fishes it during hard water. Last lake to freeze always. Lot’s of times driving on that lake is not possible until mid to late February. Thanks again!! I’ll be there the week after opener. good luck.

So, there is some ice on the south end of the lake that someone has drilled holes and fished. Open water about 100 yards out from shore.

I don’t think I would venture out at all yet.

Ya that’s crazy. Especially where the creek goes out with the current there. Again thanks for the report. Hope to see you this January. With this weather I don’t think driving on the ice will be in February and for me that will be with a wheeler. good luck.

                    Any recent ice reports? Thanks!

I'd rather be fishing and not catching, than not fishing at all

Last report from Special K was on Dec. 16 and there still was open water at that time. Here it is the first week of January and we have had little cold weather. More on the mild side along with rain. So for those who plan to go on trout opener please do not drive on the lake period. I would even question atv’s and snowmobiles. Stay near shore and fish for trout or pike and be safe. I can’t say it enough, this lake is the last to freeze and this year it can be dangerous at this time. good luck.

Ice report? Who went for opener and how’d you do?

I plan to go first thing tomorrow morning. Park by the red barn, walk a little ways and fish in 6-8 fow.

Sundi was there a week ago right before opener and he measured 14 inches. I think you have a great plan and I think you know what your doing because I would be doing the same thing. Parking on the ice by the large shallow flat is a good idea. Then like you said right off the drop off in that depth is a great spot for rainbows. I got my biggest brown in that depth on a tip up with a shiner fishing for pike while I was in my portable going after rainbows. We got cold coming up this week end so Ice will continue to form. Folks can look at my site below in the Where To Go page and I explain what to do on the Grind as far as what I do for first timers if they like. Don’t think you will need it. Let us know how you do. I’m in the middle of buying another truck [looking] because my beast has seen better days and I don’t trust it on a long drive. Should have one within a week or two but I will be there. good luck.

I heard that it was close to 20 inches in places but it’s not always like that all over but It sounds like it’s safe for driving. Just be careful near shore because there are some springs. good luck.

Finally got me a new truck so I’m good to go now. Didn’t feel safe driving long distances wit my old one anymore. What are the snow conditions on the Grind as far as driving. Thanks. good luck.

I’ll be out Friday and Saturday Hoping it’s somewhat easy travel with the truck so I don’t have to give myself a heart attach walking my fat a$$ out there.
