I have no idea what the ice is like on Big Trout, but other lakes in the Brainerd area are looking real sketchy, especially the small lakes and even around the edges of the larger lakes are open or bad ice. I think you’d be crazy to venture out on the ice now, regardless of the lake.

My friend was fishing by Merrifield last night, and had a good night. Be he said he called it a season as the ice is getting pretty bad. I didn’t ask how the landing was, but the couple lakes we fish there tend to have pretty poor access once the ice starts going out so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was in hip boots.

it is getting close!! I don’t think it is ice free but bays and smaller lakes are opening on the chain so it is just a matter of days till it is clear. I go to a camera on lower hay and looks like there is ice in the distant. web site is pinenest.info
