Anyone know what the lake conditions are right now in terms of ice depth and snow cover? Debating on whether or not to hook up the plow. Really appreciate it everyone!
January 9, 2020 at 2:31 pm #714793On a different outdoor site they have a resorter/outfitter posting weekly reports, sounds like it took a couple days to re-open roads and such up there after last week storm, folks were stranded for a couple days drifted in,check with westwind and Rogers for up dates.
FYI
January 9, 2020 at 3:12 pm #714794For sure call the resort you plan on using for access to check on conditions. Sounds like parts of Red were a real mess. One of the outfitters I’ve used in the past ended up pulling the plug on his Red Lake operation for the season and moving up to LOW due to all of the slush they had to deal with in their area of the lake. Other parts of the lake seemed to fair better but its best to get first hand info on the exact part of the lake you want to fish.
January 10, 2020 at 3:03 pm #714795Looks like flooding is still a big issue for most of the lake and so much snow on the ice right now. All resorts will have the latest on what is going on with their area. Bite has been slow overall but again that changes with every report………Kirk

January 10, 2020 at 5:41 pm #714796Thanks for the updates. Probably just have the resort plow a spot if they are willing. No need to be bombing around the lake. Just looking to wet a line and enjoy the weekend! Again I appreciate the updates.

Again I appreciate the updates.Make sure to call your preferred resorts before leaving. I know at least Hilman’s road is closed to the public due to the ice/slush conditions. They are only letting their rental houses use the road right now so you’d be out of luck trying to get your wheelhouse out on their roads right now.
I don’t know what the other resorts are doing so call around to find out which resort is willing to let you and your wheelhouse out and if they’ll plow a spot for you.
All the reports I’ve heard say its a real mess up there. Bombing around the lake is completely off the table without a sled or tracks. The outfitters are working hard for their money this year.
January 10, 2020 at 8:07 pm #714798Just did a little digging and at least west wind and JR’s seem to have good roads and are letting wheel houses out. May still want to check about the availability of plowed spots

January 22, 2020 at 2:02 am #714800–CLOSED FOR THE SEASON Please Share
After this last storm, we have made the decision to close our access for the year. It’s unsafe for anyone to be out with all the water we have on the ice. Every time we place a house or a private, there ends up being water everywhere and it’s not safe. We also have no where to push snow around to try and find fishable ice. If you had a rental booked, call Captain Dave to get your refund. Our landing will not be open for anyone as we are not going to be out on the lake. If you have a house on our storage grounds and want to get it out, give Captain a call.
Thank you to everyone that fished with us this season. Look forward to seeing you all next winter. 🎣🕳
January 22, 2020 at 2:06 am #714801Talked to a group of guys that went last thursday-sunday and only caught 2 fish on red. He said it was painful being in a big shack and that was the resort that just closed. Also the ice he said was only 12-13″ thick be careful if you go there in a wheelhouse or truck
January 22, 2020 at 5:25 pm #714802Heard from some friends up there last weekend. Not sure where they went out of but the fishing was really slow for them as well. Looked like they had ok ice conditions where the house was but I haven’t heard anything good about overall ice conditions.
There is more than 1 outfitter closing up shop for the winter already due to the poor conditions.
On the plus side maybe the walleye on Red will get a break, although sounds like LOW is really getting pounded as a result. Haven’t been up myself but Ive heard from others that its a real zoo on LOW.
