The ice report for The Red Door Resort 12-10-14

The conditions found today ranges from 11-14 inches. We checked ice from our shoreline out to the south end of Eileen flat. We have two cracks bridged near shore and a new 6 inch crack out on the south end of the Bombeck Flat which runs from the SE to the NW running along the edge of Resort Flat and ends near the old Rays Boat Dock area. The 11 inch areas have not improved from Monday do to the mild weather we are currently having.
We are currently open to atv, side by side, and sleds only. Our access remains closed to cars and trucks. We will decide on our fish house pull schedule Monday 12-15. Red Door customers need to complete any work with house repairs prior to the pulling schedule. Time to get your houses ready folks!
Reports from the fishing has been pretty good. Walleyes have been caught just off the rocks in front of the resort in 17 fow and deeper. The early and late day bite has been the best. The customers in the spear houses have been getting some really big pike! a couple of 16-18 lb. pike have been speared!

After stopping in to the lodge at the Red Door to get the latest ice report from Bobber and Steve, we went out to the north end of the flats to fish. We set our two man clam on 28 FOW right off the edge of the flat we were on and put our set lines 14″ off the bottom, with chartreuse and red hooks with both rainbows and fatheads. Jigging didn’t do squat cuz the bite was slow, but we got 21 walleyes w/ 1 19″ keeper and one 13″ perch on set lines, so we stayed with those.
We were out about 3 hours.

How many of the 21 were in the 10-11″ range? Curious if your seeing them out there right now as well…

Yeah, you guessed it, all the rest were under 18″ with the biggest being 16 3/4″ with at least a dozen in the 12″ and under. I’m waiting for the hog that’s down there EATING them things.
Got all little ones with the biggest being 15″ on the break by Barnacles the day before, too.
              Going out of Hunter’s tomorrow.

Hardhouses aren’t being pulled this weekend yet til after the big warmup, so I see clam hopping for a couple days in my future.

              See you out there.

This weather doesn’t help the access for sure. Plenty of ice out there though, I had a solid 10 everywhere I went a couple days ago. Sure was hoping to have the rentals available for next weekend aS I have a large group that is looking to fish.

Are you allowing to park wheel houses close to shore then take portables out on the lake?

If anyone could give an update on the access and how the ice faired, it sure would be appreciated. Forecast is calling for colder temps and maybe an inch or 2 of new snow. Hopefully that cleans things up a bit. Still planning on hitting the mud this weekend if possible. Thanks, stay safe!
