X2 on  cabelas,,,picked up one couple seasons ago. Might get a little better hook set with braided line. I use mono so far and it is a nice combo with the pfluger on mine, for the money. Depending upon how much hook set ya want that 6’6” might be better. I like watching the rod bend like Curt Gowdy!,gettin excited for the opener! Good luck and wear your PFD

These are probably on the upper end of “mid-priced”, but you can’t go wrong with either a Fenwick Elite Tech Walleye MLXF or St. Croix Eyecon MLXF paired with a Pflueger President XT.  Fenwick HMG MLF would save you a little money.

I gotta disagree on the pflueger…yeah they are reasonably priced but I’ve been through about six of them and the back reel broke in all of them I’ve gotten used to it and can handle the reel spinning backwards but the wife and kids struggle

I too liked the Cabelas rods.  The IM7 grey ones (forget the model) worked nicely and were inexpensive.  Went to replace it and found challenges finding what I wanted.  I prefer 2 piece rods for the convenience of travel so selection in the 6’6″ and 7′ Medium light were limited.

I grabbed an Fenwick 6’6″ ML this past weekend.  Don’t know if will get to use it because the kid claimed it as soon as I got home.  Was $79 so thought it was reasonably priced.  6’6″
                Medium Light  Fast  HMX66ML-MFS-2  4-10 lbs.  1/8 – 5/8 oz.  2 piece  C

I prefer the medium light when jigging 1/4 ounce or smaller.  Something with a faster tip.  When fishing 3/8 ounce and above I go with a medium rod.  I have a Fenwick one piece 7′ that I enjoy for that.

Forgot you also looking for reels.  I like the Shimano reels, specifically been buying the Sedona 1000 series for my jigging rods.  Priced nicely and have been very reliable.  I don’t like the ones with the quick trigger finger thing.  Hate that it back reels to a set point always.  Have missed many fish on those reels and gave them away.
