I lost my best hunting partner this morning. My dog Shadow woke up this morning lethargic, panting heavily and with a very rigid belly. Thought it may be a twisted stomach but the emergency vet found things much worse…a cancerous growth that burst inside. Even with surgery his chances of living were slim. So the decision to let him go, painful as it was, was necessary.
I have a new pup who will be ready to go by autumn but the fields and ponds will never be the same without him.
Rest in peace dear friend.

Looks like he was hell of a retriever and a good hunting buddy may the memories you made with him stick with you forever.

“To bird dogs old and new
and the good ones, which are so few
Tonight we raise our glasses,
in remembrance of hunts in tall grasses
May you meet birds flying far and wide
yet, know it means nothing without you by my side
I can’t wait to see you again, my friend
so we can get a few more birds ’round the next trail’s bend”Remember, the most important thing you can give is your time.March 31, 2017 at 1:15 pm #699059RIP Shadow. So sorry for your loss. It’s never easy but hope time will heal the pain.
