Was up at the pond this weekend to do a little trolling. Man was it windy up there. Figures. Every time I get a chance to fish up there it blows like a son of a B.
Anyway, the fishing was good, but I believe that the best is yet to come. It takes a little work to get them right now yet anyway.

On Thursday night I was up by myself and fished the West side. Ended up catching 9 fish. Not too bad, but no real big ones. Mostly eaters and I actually caught a few little shakers.

Friday night, jstick came up and we fished the west side again. Slow is a great way to put it that night. All we could muster were 5 fish and one other one that came unbuttoned. Again nothing bigger than 20″.

Saturday night we decided to hide from the hurricane winds and fish the south side. Got out there a little before dark and had 2 in the box before the sun went down. Figured that it would be a good night and boy was it ever. We ended up catching 30 fish with lots of them over 20″. No real big monsters, but a couple that went 27″ so I’m not complaining.

All except 2 of our fish were caught over rocks. 4-8 ft. seemed to be the best. The break right near the top or right on top of any little bump, hump, reef, or point that you were fishing was best. Trolling speeds were 1.7 – 2.0 mph, with 1.8 seeming to be the magic speed. Husky Jerks, shallow shads, Rogues, and Bomber long A’s all caught fish, with the Bombers being the best. It didn’t matter what color you had on as long as it was firetiger.

Water temps were right at 55-56 degrees, so it should only get better from here. I hope to make it up at least once more and hopefully more than that.
We’ll see what the old lady says.

P.S. I was down in Isle bay on Friday afternoon and the perch are still biting. You do have to sort threw plenty, but a limit of 10-12″ fish isn’t all that hard to do. Nothing better than fried perch.

Sounds good Rick. I would have liked to been netting a few more, but my co-pilot kinda got schooled this weekend which is odd cause usually it’s the other way around.

Trav, on Friday I was in that area.
