Myself and a buddy went out for the opener. We fished from 94 bridge north to power plant. We were trolling cranks all day with a mix of lead core and fireline. We ended up keeping 9 fish from 15″-18″. Our experience was this
-Leadcore worked better than longline, even if not needed for the depth.
      – Most our fish came in 17-20 ft range
-water was up over last year and current was also
      – caught lots of fish early, then when traffic picked up fish moved off shoreline break and spread out
      – caught a lot of 14-14 1/2″ fish
      – water temp was around 50 all day
      – water was dirty and lots of stuff floating down river

Did you catch any white bass? I’ll be fishing the croix Friday and Saturday, and hoping to find a bunch of those.

No white bass. All we caught were walleye and sauger

Nice work Jfro50! Any hot colors for crankbaits? Guessing the usual firetiger was good. For some reason in the river leadcore usually outfishes long line for me too on most trips.

We caught 12 for the 3 of us but i could put together no real pattern other than the depth lines. No color or bait really did better or worse and the fish seemed very scattered not in active schools. Normally i am looking for schools of bait fish to figure 8 over but no luck there either. Caught lost of sauger right next the the 94 bridge off the edge of the rocks but no really nice ones. Those were caught on jigs and minnows.
